The installation of Morgan Construction Company¡¯s No-Twist Mill® (NTM) guide upgrades has resulted in significant improvements in mill utilization at the ArcelorMittal Georgetown steel plant in Georgetown, South Carolina, according to Rolling Mill Division Manager Danie Devapiriam.
¡°In May 2007, we completed a total upgrade to the latest Morgan guide equipment for both strands in our mill. At the time of the upgrade, we had been experiencing many delays and cobbles in the NTM utilizing outdated equipment,¡± he said.
¡°After the upgrade of the static receiving guides and mounting, static delivery guides and mounting, and the X-clamp roller entry guide system -- including the guides, mountings, and precision optical alignment equipment -- we have seen significant reductions in the cobble rate as well as improved product tolerance and the reduction of flutter in the mill.
¡°Overall we have experienced better-than-expected performance and benefits from this upgrade over the past five months,¡± he concluded.
ArcelorMittal Georgetown is owned by ArcelorMittal, the world¡¯s largest steel producer. Morgan Construction Company is a designer and producer of high-quality rolling mill products and services for the metal industry worldwide.
